God dag!
Thanks to all who took the time to come to the 2007 Opdalslaget. We have a good time visiting, shopping, worshiping, sharing information, and more. The number of persons attending was down from the previous year. We need to spread the word to stir up some interest for new members. The membership cost is low and the meals at the Opdalslaget are moderately priced (& we are well fed!)
A highlight of the gathering was a sharing of information and pictures by those that had participated in the trip to the Oppdal area of Norway. If there are more interested people that would like to take a similar trip, these travelers could be good advisers.
We had a meeting of the committee on Saturday, 13 Oct., and shared a lot of information that will be helpful in setting up future Opdalslaget's. And Gil's report of our income was very good. These long-standing (& some original officers) have been the back-bone of the organization and have done a terrific job. Any ideas or suggestions for programs and/or entertainment and demonstrations would be welcomed. Plans are to have onlyg a one day gathering next year, so if you have some "pros" or "cons" to this idea, please let us know.
Some of you have recently attended the Høstfest in Minot, ND. I was there once, three years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. There is another gathering that would be very worth attending, the Hjemkomst Festival. This is held in the 3rd week of June each year at Moorhead, MN. The Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center is centered with a Viking ship with an informational video on its construction and sailing. There are lots of displays to view and even more during the festival, including a stave kirk built recently in the same park. The Center has visitor's hours year-round but the bonus of attending during the festival is watching the crafts persons and enjoying the Nordic foods available (cooked right there!) An additional bonus for we stitchers, the Nordic Needle is in Fargo, just across the river. They are long-time suppliers of fabric, thread, patterns, etc. for those doing Hardanger, cross-stitching and more.
If you know of any more festivals, etc. that we need to be reminded of, please let one of us know, and we can put the information in another newsletter.
